European patent and successful international launch of pIOM-technology

Pelvic intraoperative neuromonitoring for interventions in the pelvis

inomed recently received the European patent for pIOM-technology, which is used for pelvic neuromonitoring. Since its launch last year, the technology has been successful in the market. The number of systems in use in Germany has increased significantly since 2014. In addition to great interest from German clinics, the international demand for pIOM-technology continues to rise after initial applications in the last few months.

The pIOM-technology for pelvic intraoperative neuromonitoring is used for operations in the area of the pelvis - so far mainly during the total mesorectal excision (TME) as part of the surgical treatment of rectal cancer. The applications are to be expanded on the future.

Reliable identifying and monitoring of nerve plexus - ensuring quality of life

The aim of the pelvic intraoperative neuromonitoring is to reliably identify and monitor the nerve plexus located in the pelvis using pIOM-technology. This is achieved by the simultaneous display of the anal sphincter EMG signals and the bladder pressure.

Nerve injury during surgery can thus be increasingly avoided. Postoperative complications such as urogenital and anorectal dysfunction (stool and urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction) can be prevented in the ideal case and thus ensure the quality of life of patients.
