3D printing for advanced stereotactic systems

Development of a new generation of stereotactic systems for functional neurosurgery

Starting the S2MedPrint research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection on 01.05.2021, inomed Medizintechnik GmbH is working in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA on the development of new types of stereotactic systems produced using additive manufacturing processes (3D printing).

The aim is to develop a new generation of stereotaxy systems for functional neurosurgery based on additively manufactured, highly functionalised, large-format multi-material components that specifically address the shortcomings and disadvantages of conventional stereotaxy systems. S2MedPrint will investigate whether all the necessary requirements for stiffness, dimensional accuracy, clinical reprocessing and optical quality can be achieved. In a next step, the knowledge gained is to be transferred to other fields of application and manufacturing processes in medical technology.
